02 Submitting To God's Will
Jonah, who has also been called the "reluctant prophet," was told by God to travel to Ninevah, the capital of the brutal Assyrian Empire. There, he was to preach the need for repentance to the people, as well as to warn of the consequences that would follow if they did not change their ways.
Jonah disobeyed because of his own prejudice, and instead, traveled in the opposite direction. His choice not to bring God’s message to the people of Ninevah, ushered in a series of events that made him realize that nothing positive comes from running away from God’s will. Though his stubbornness and pride caused him to stumble, God’s grace and mercy carried him through the difficulties and brought him to a place of obedience to God.
We learn that God shows His love and grace for all people, even Jonah.
